Susan Sarandon Bio
It was 1968. Democratic Convention, and there was a casting demand for a movie that featured many parts for young people who disrupted it. Two recent graduates from Catholic University in Washington DC went to the auditions in New York for Joe (1970). Chris Sarandon was not selected for the role, despite having previously studied acting. His wife Susan was given the opportunity to play in the film as Susan Compton. Susan Compton is the daughter of Bill Compton (Dennis Patrick). In the movie Dad Bill kills Susan's drug dealer friend and then befriends Joe (Peter Boyle)-- an obnoxious worker in an assembly line and who is a collector of guns.Five years later, Sarandon made the film that fans of the cult classics have come to recognize her as Janet who becomes involved with transvestite Dr. Frank n Furter in The The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975). After over 15 years, Sarandon was finally able to actively advocate for Annie in Bull Durham (1988), taking a flight from Rome to Los Angeles at her expense. She stated "It was such an amazing script... it did away with many myths and challenged the definition of what success is". "I went to the studio with Kevin Costner and shook hands with his gorgeous assistants before getting back on the plane. Her romance with the Bull Durham (1988)) acting partner, Tim Robbins, had produced two sons by 1992 and put Sarandon in the awkward position of leaving her domestic paradise and taking on roles that truly challenged her. Four Academy Award nominations were received in the 1990s. The award for the best actress was presented for Dead Man Walking (1995) was also presented. Louis Malle's Atlantic City (1980) was her first Academy Award nomination.
